LPKR COMMITS TO ENERGY AND WATER SAVINGS IN SHOPPING MALLS

Jakarta, April 13, 2023 – PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk (LPKR), Indonesia’s leading real estate and healthcare company by revenue, has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing energy and water consumption across its managed property assets. This includes shopping mall properties, which typically consume significant amounts of electricity and water — such as Lippo Mall Puri in Jakarta and Sun Plaza in Medan.

John Riady, Group CEO of LPKR, stated that energy-saving systems and initiatives have led to a 21% reduction in energy consumption at Lippo Mall Puri and 24% at Sun Plaza. Meanwhile, the use of water-saving faucets and rainwater harvesting systems has resulted in water savings of 31% at Lippo Mall Puri and 35% at Sun Plaza.

“These initiatives have resulted in utility cost savings of IDR 9.08 billion and IDR 8.49 billion per year at Lippo Mall Puri and Sun Plaza, respectively,” he explained.

As Indonesia’s largest mall developer and operator, LPKR is committed to taking meaningful steps toward improving resource efficiency by incorporating sustainable design and best environmental practices into its operations.

Currently, LPKR manages its shopping malls through Lippo Malls Indonesia (LMI), which oversees a portfolio of 59 malls located across Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), Bandung, East Java, Central Java, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, and Eastern Indonesia, including Makassar, Manado, Bali, and Kupang.

In February 2022, LPKR announced that Lippo Mall Puri and Sun Plaza, two malls owned by Lippo Malls Indonesia Retail Trust (LMIR Trust), received EDGE green building certification. EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) is a global green building standard and certification system developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group.

EDGE certification is awarded to buildings that demonstrate at least 20% efficiency in energy, water, and embodied energy in materials compared to conventional buildings. In Indonesia, EDGE certification is issued by the Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI).

These certifications mark the first green building recognition for LPKR’s retail portfolio. LPKR holds a 47.0% stake in LMIR Trust. Lippo Mall Puri is located in St. Moritz, West Jakarta, a fully integrated mixed-use development, while Sun Plaza is situated in Medan, North Sumatra.
