LPKR DEMONSTRATES STRONG COMMITMENT TO ESG PRACTICES
Jakarta, May 31, 2022 — As a manifestation of its commitment to sustainable economic, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, PT Lippo Karawaci Tbk (LPKR) has officially launched its 2021 Sustainability Report.
John Riady, CEO of LPKR, stated that the report reflects the company’s long-term value creation approach and its commitment to implementing ESG best practices.
“We are determined to create beautiful, sustainable, and thriving urban ecosystems for all to enjoy. Across all LPKR business operations, we are driven by a shared purpose to improve the well-being of everyone we serve,” he said.
In its ESG practices, LPKR is focused on delivering affordable and quality housing across Indonesia. Since 2020, the company has made a strategic decision to prioritize the development of housing that caters to first-time homebuyers, especially the millennial segment. Currently, 84% of LPKR’s home sales come from units priced at IDR 2 billion or below.
Beyond property, LPKR also contributes significantly to accessible, high-quality healthcare across the nation. Through its Siloam Hospitals network, the company has expanded access to BPJS-covered hospitals and clinics, serving over 1 million BPJS patients to date.
“We remain committed to expanding hospital and clinic access throughout Indonesia, with accessibility as a key priority in our business strategy,” said John.
With its extensive geographical footprint and multiple consumer touchpoints, LPKR is well-positioned to uplift the quality of life for millions of Indonesians. In 2021, the LPKR Group served more than 125 million people and actively supported regional economies by providing income opportunities for communities and MSMEs. The Group also collaborated in facilitating over 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for communities across its malls, residential developments, and healthcare facilities.
On the environmental front, LPKR implemented energy and water resource efficiency measures, leading to significant cost savings in 2021. Initiatives included enhancements in rainwater and wastewater recycling systems.
LPKR also prioritizes employee well-being and development for its 16,000+ workforce, offering comprehensive physical, emotional, and mental health support. These efforts include regular COVID-19 testing, hardship allowances, wellness programs, counseling services, and flexible work arrangements.
Through Siloam Hospitals, the company actively contributes to building Indonesia’s healthcare talent pipeline. In 2021, 408 nurses earned nursing diplomas through scholarships at the Faculty of Nursing, while 4,403 healthcare professionals received training at the Siloam Training Center.
“A well-trained and qualified healthcare workforce is essential to advancing the transformation of healthcare services in Indonesia,” added John.
Looking ahead, LPKR is committed to further integrating sustainability into its core business strategy and operations. The company has been recognized as a constituent of the IDX-KEHATI ESG Sector Leaders Index by the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the December 2021 – May 2022 period.
“This recognition validates our approach to sustainable value creation and motivates us to be even more ambitious in executing our ESG roadmap in the years to come,” John concluded.
